— The girls of Girl Scout Troop 1148 recently did a community service project as part of earning their Take Action badge. The Girl Scouts collaborated on what type of project they wanted to do and chose to collect mittens for children in their school. Project Happy Hands evolved to promote warm hands and warm hearts. The Girls Scouts approached approximately 20 businesses and asked if they could place boxes in their stores to collect from people within the community. They collected during December and January and in total accumulated 161 pairs of mittens and gloves, 47 hats and nine scarves. The clothing was presented to Principal Julie Orton at PCES, who is getting the items into cold hands.
Troop 1148 is from Guilford, with members also residing in Sangerville, Parkman, Abbot and Cambridge. Troop leaders are Holly Gifford and Rachael Davis. Pictured, from left, is Hailee Hartford, Elizabeth Kendall, Hannah Dow, Sadie Davis, Meagan Lemieux, Grace Buehne, Courtney Kane and Aliyah Ouellette. Not pictured, Anna Fagan. The Troop would like to thank the area businesses and members of the community for their generous support. |
