Pine Tree Hospice recognizes caregivers with a day long celebration |

ABBOT — The Balsam Woods Campground graciously provided the perfect backdrop for Pine Tree Hospice’s Caring for the Caregiver day held on July 30. Twenty people came out for a day designed to support and strengthen current and past caregivers in our communities through presentations, activities and interactions with others in similar circumstances.

Abbot inventor designs product to kill garden slugs |

ABBOT — An Abbot inventor has created a device designed to exterminate gardens slugs without the use of pesticides. Jim Plummer, a former Bangor High School math teacher, created the Green Garden Slugger this spring in order to protect his vegetable garden from these perennial invaders.

GREEN GARDEN SLUGGER — Abbot inventor Jim Plummer demonstrates his device for killing garden slugs without the use of chemicals. He devised the Green Garden Slugger earlier this spring which scoops up slugs near a garden with a trident before squashing them to death with the other implement.

Selectmen expected to call special town meeting this fall |

ABBOT — The selectmen are eyeing a potential special town meeting date later this fall for settling issues concerning the creation of a road commissioner’s position, posting a “no thru truck” sign on the back Abbot Road and raising funds for the possible hiring an outside tax assessing firm.

The selectmen approved the permit for the tournament which will be held on Sunday, Sept. 4 at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant. The selectmen also discussed resolving several municipal issues by having a special town meeting later this fall.
